In Chikankari, Keel Kangan (often referred to as Keel with Kangan) is a beautiful, slightly raised stitch commonly used to decorate the tips of flower petals or create tiny floral accents. The name literally translates to "spike" or "nail" (keel) and "bangle" (kangan), which describes exactly how it looks. To create it, an artisan stitches a tiny, prominent dot or spike in the center and completely surrounds it with a delicate, circular ring of thread. This combination forms a small, embossed structure on the surface of the fabric that pops out against the flatter surrounding stitches, adding intricate, three-dimensional detailing to traditional Awadhi patterns.
