Our Story

Preserving a Legacy. Reimagining Its Future

HUM CHIKANKARI was born from a deep admiration for Lucknow's timeless craft and the artisans who have preserved it for generations.
We believe Chikankari deserves to be part of everyday life, not only admired on special occasions, but worn, cherished, and passed on. Our vision is to honor traditional hand embroidery while creating contemporary silhouettes that feel effortless in today's wardrobe.
Every piece is handcrafted with patience, precision, and respect for the craft. By bringing together heritage and modern design, we hope to ensure that this remarkable art continues to thrive for generations to come.
For us, every garment is more than clothing. It is a celebration of craftsmanship, culture, and the enduring spirit of Lucknow.

Our name, HUM, means "we." In Lucknow, it's also a way of speaking—where hum means 'I', reflecting a culture rooted in warmth and humility. It captures the spirit of our brand: artisans, heritage, and those who wear our creations, all connected by a shared love for Chikankari.

A Legacy Woven Through Centuries

For centuries, Chikankari has flourished in Lucknow, admired for its delicate hand embroidery, intricate craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. Nurtured through generations of skilled artisans, it remains an enduring symbol of the city's rich cultural heritage.

Every motif is embroidered by hand using traditional techniques passed down over time. Each stitch reflects patience, precision, and artistry, transforming fabric into timeless creations.

At HUM CHIKANKARI, we honour this legacy by preserving the essence of traditional craftsmanship while reimagining it for the modern wardrobe, creating pieces designed to be worn, cherished, and passed on.

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER

“For me, HUM CHIKANKARI is a little piece of Lucknow, stitched with love.”

HUM CHIKANKARI began with my love for the timeless Chikankari of my hometown, Lucknow. I wanted to bring this beautiful craft into modern wardrobes while staying true to its roots, artisans and heritage. What started as a personal passion has grown into a brand that celebrates Lucknowi craftsmanship in an effortless, contemporary way.

Our purpose

We don't preserve Chikankari by placing it behind glass. We preserve it by ensuring it's worn, loved, and passed on.
