Maang Patti is a specialized Chikankari stitch used primarily to fill in leaf designs. Its name comes from the Hindi word for a hair parting (maang), which perfectly describes how it looks: as the artisan stitches from the outer edges of the leaf inward, the threads meet to form a distinct, textured line right down the center. Unlike simpler, flatter stitches, Maang Patti creates a slightly raised, overlapping pattern on the front of the fabric. It takes a steady, skilled hand to keep that central ridge perfectly straight and even, which gives the embroidered leaves a rich, three-dimensional appearance.
